Last of the night you will be pleased to know. Sorry if I've been neglecting this blog and not visiting the blogs I usually do but I'm really trying to get to grips with this RAW editing thingy. Mark that site you are going to write about has been a big help many thanks sir!!!

Raw again which helped to bring out the colour in the top of the archway, which otherwise would have been deep in shadow.

Not sure about this one! a 30 second exposure and from RAW. The sea just didn't do what I expected.. not enough movement to blur well.

A Raw Deal

Well here we go dipping my toe in the depths of RAW. The first shot is my edit off a jpeg. The second my attempt at RAW and Mark (link to his site The photographic Aspect is on the sidebar) was right! I was surprised how easy it was to bring out shadow detail... I just do not know if I have done it right? Anyway I like the result :) just need to practice!!!!!!!!!!!

Waters o' Minnoch

The wife was with me on this trip, actually it was her idea to go for a wee run (trip in the car) This is a bit off a rush shot. Although she says take your time you still try to do it as quickly as you can.... now now no smut please :) One thing I have noticed is this camera likes to be a bit heavy on the blue side off the spectrum. After this shot I altered the saturation on the camera so hopefully that will put it right.

Back properly at last, not much off a shot though lots wrong, blow-out, lens distort! The weather was not kind tonight and one of the very first shots taken, trying to get to grips with the new camera. Photography is like watercolour painting if you don't keep practicing you lose/forget the technique. Not that I had much :)

This is a Jpeg I had only intended to shoot RAW but due to time have only just uploaded the software never mind looked at it. There are Raw shots of this but I'll need time to monkey about with it and might post for comparison. DAMN it's good to be back! Click the pic to enlarge.

Learning Time

Some bored musings! While waiting I decided to learn as much as I could.... and deciding whether to set the camera to Adobe RGB or sRGB and the conflicting advice is doing my scone in. Especially if shooting RAW there is no advantage to either. AND don't get me started on profiling the monitor actually I think that is ok but don't get me started anyway :)))

Then am I being spied on? When I click the orange publish post after writing this, low and behold there is an advert for something I have just written about.... clever sods!!

A Woman Scorned

has nothing on a photographer (small p) scorned!!! The new camera was supposed to arrive today at noon after paying extra for express delivery but now will not come until Tuesday... bankers! Now now, bankers is the correct terminology! It was delayed because off those bankers who put a hold on the payment.... due to unusual activity on the debit card. Worse I was just an hour to late in finding out grrr!



I suppose it's ok possibly, maybe, perhaps,? and I'd be complaining if I were being defrauded but I had a shoot (small s) planned for tonight at a new location and the weather is perfect as it always is in Scotland ;) I just know when the camera arrives it will rain for a month.

Update

A wee update on the sale of my photos. It's all done and dusted, sold to a major worldwide multinational, in my first ever sale! :) There's still another sale on the go, to another large worldwide company, hopefully to be concluded soon.

Unfortunately for you lot out there that means I'm just about to buy another camera to replace my ruined wee point and shoot. So I'll be upgrading to a full DSLR this time. At first I was tempted by the Nikon D300 and the new soon to be released Pentax K-7 but in the end I could not justify the high price tag for either to myself, ( I am Scots after-all) especially on the unproven K-7. Not only that I don't shoot movies never mind need HD so way pay extra.

Therefore having loved Pentax for the past 30 years I think I'll stick with that brand and go for the Pentax K20d, with any money leftover going toward some quality lenses to add to the Pentax lenses I already have. Can't wait!
